About
Matt Biasotti is a ceramic artist and educator based in Bozeman, Montana. Originally from Mill Valley, CA, Matt’s passion for ceramics began at an early age under the mentorship of Mark Jaeger, with whom he spent years firing wood kilns at the Mendocino Art Center. This early experience with atmospheric firing sparked a lifelong dedication to the material and process. Matt went on to study wood-fired ceramics at Montana State University’s School of Art, working with Josh DeWeese, Dean Adams, and Jeremy Hatch. Matt earned a BFA in Studio Arts (Ceramics) and a BA in Art Education, further deepening his knowledge of both creative practice and instruction.
Currently, Matt is one of the ceramics instructors at Gallatin High School in Bozeman, sharing his passion for clay with the next generation of makers. Matt’s work has been exhibited in Montana, California, and Brazil, including at the Helen E. Copeland Gallery, the Exit Gallery, the Waller-Yoblonsky Gallery, the Clay Studio of Missoula, and the Archie Bray Foundation.
In Matt’s studio practice, he explores the intersection of function and sculpture, focusing on wood-fired ceramics. Matt’s work reflects a deep engagement with material, form, and surface, embracing the dynamic and unpredictable nature of the firing process.
